Project Description:
A downcomer duct collapsed on the roof of the basic oxygen furnace resulting in emergency response services to restore production (54 days from incident to resumed production).  Our scope of work was to replace 240 LF (linear feet) of 13’ diameter downcomer duct & dirty gas main with mineral wool and aluminum lagging.  Bondy Insulation was brought onto site 10 days after the initial incident to begin our work at grade.  Duct sections were insulated and lagged on the ground and then hoisted into place 170’ above grade.  All lifts were completed as scheduled, with insulation system complete.  Due to the success of the #27 downcomer replacement, our scope of work expanded with repairs to the adjacent #28 downcomer.  This work consisted of replacing insulation and lagging on a 45-degree slope at 170’ elevation.
