Project Description: The Michigan Central Station is a significant Detroit landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places and symbolic of the decline and resurgence the City of Detroit has experienced over the last several decades. The station, like all historic buildings, is a finite resource and cannot be replaced. The character of the architecture, the quality of materials, and the craftsmanship of the laborers and artisans who toiled on its construction over 100 years ago are embodied in the surviving fabric of the building.
Ford Motor Company purchased the building in June 2018 with plans to spend hundreds of millions more to turn it into a technology hub for electric and autonomous vehicles. After initial construction, spaces will then be made ready for tenants, including retail shops, a restaurant and residential units.
