Notre Dame | Chiller Plant
Location: South Bend, IN
Project Completion: 2019
Hours worked: 16,000
Peak Insulators: 14
Highlights:
- Two thermal energy storage tanks with a chilled water capacity of 100,000 gallons each
- Two new natural gas fired combustion gas turbines with heat recovery steam generators and associated piping and combustion air duct
- 12,000 LF (lineal feet) of large bore piping
- Five geothermal heat recovery chillers
Project Description:
The University of Notre Dame installed two 5.5 megawatt combined cycle combustion gas turbines, each with a dedicated heat recovery steam generator to produce both electricity and steam. These units replaced older power plant boilers with newer, higher efficiency and lower emission sources of energy.
The chiller portion of the project includes two new 2,000 ton electric-driven chillers and associated piping and equipment.
