Project Description:
The Detroit Heavy Oil Upgrade Project (DHOUP) increased the Marathon Detroit refinery’s capacity to process an additional eighty million barrels per day of heavy sour crude oils, including Canadian crude oils, while also adding more than 400,000 gallons per day of clean transportation fuels to the marketplace. In addition to the upsizing throughout the entire refinery, a new Coker Unit, Sulfur Recovery Unit, and Distillate Hydrotreater Unit were keystones of the overall project. At $2.2 billion, the project was the largest private-sector project ever undertaken in Detroit and one of the largest projects ever in the state of Michigan.
